Growing the progressive movement is one of OFA's top priorities.

We’re dedicated to creating high-quality talent at every level—from recruiting and training activists to become skilled organizers to developing the skills of mid- and senior-level staff throughout the progressive community.

OFA is strengthening the pipeline of talent throughout the country with leadership development and training programs.

Organizing for Action’s elite fellowship program is designed to train the next generation of progressive leaders and issue advocates. Fellows emerge from this intensive six-week program highly skilled in the tools community organizers use every day to create change in their communities. Working in one of three tracks (basic, intermediate, or advanced), fellows develop skills in areas such as community engagement, digital organizing, and digital content production.

All OFA Fellowship tracks involve either working alongside veteran chapter leads or include direct instruction from experts at OFA headquarters in Chicago. Each track will involve work on important issues such as climate change, health care, and women’s rights, so fellows can apply their new skills immediately.

Diali Avila

2015 OFA Fellow

Diali got her start in organizing by helping her community find health care coverage during the first open enrollment period of the Affordable Care Act. She became an OFA fellow to learn new skills, broaden her organizing experience, and increase the impact of her work. Through her time with OFA, she was able to explore and apply digital organizing principles and best practices that are sure to be useful as her career progresses.

Building upon the rich history of community organizing in Chicago, the Community Organizing Institute is a place to share stories, best practices, and innovations in order to build our community and empower individuals in the fight for change. It is a shared space for organizers, policy makers, and advocates to come together for workshops, panel discussions, presentations, trainings, film screenings, and social gatherings—building a strong foundation for partnerships.

Want to change the world, but aren’t sure how to get started? Camp OFA trainings are local gatherings hosted by OFA leaders, designed to give you the skills and tools you need to make a difference on the issues you care about. Sign up to learn more about Camp OFA trainings in your community.
