Do one thing today in honor of Newtown

This Saturday marks the anniversary of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In the days that followed, we mourned as a nation for the families of Newtown and pledged to do what we could to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again.

That's why communities across the country are coming together again on Saturday—and, even if you can't be there in person, there's something you can do to be part of this day of remembrance.

To send the simple message that we all still remember, people across the country are changing their Facebook profiles to make Newtown, Connecticut their hometown. Here's how:

1. Go to your personal Facebook profile page, and click the button at the top that says "Update Info."

2. Under "Places Lived," if you don't have a hometown, click "Add Your Hometown." If you already have a hometown, click "Edit" next to it.

3. Enter "Newtown, Connecticut," and click "Save Changes."

An update should appear in your Facebook news feed telling your friends you've changed your hometown, showing everyone that you stand in solidarity with the victims of gun violence.

What happened a year ago hit so many of us so hard because it forced us to realize that no community is immune to the threat of such a tragedy. In that way, we are all Newtown. If you want to show it, please consider changing your hometown on Facebook.
