Vice President Biden Visits OFA-NM Headquarters, Speaks to Grassroots Volunteers

By Kenny S., Volunteer, Field Team, OFA-New Mexico on February 16, 2012

Vice President Biden dropped by our OFA-NM office today to address volunteers and supporters. New Mexico is a small state with a big heart, so it was exciting that we were able to open our doors to him this afternoon. I had the honor of introducing him to an excited crowd of volunteers.

Growing up in a low-income family in Northern New Mexico, I learned first-hand that hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded. My mother held three jobs to put food on the table and sacrificed everything for her children. It wasn’t an easy upbringing, but I learned important lessons about hard work, compassion, and remembering your roots.

  • That’s why I admire the Vice President so much. He grew up in a working-class family in Scranton, Pennsylvania and knows what it’s like to work hard for everything you got.
  • Most importantly though, our volunteers are the backbone of our grassroots operation – and the Vice President spoke about this during his remarks.

At OFA-NM, we truly believe that an inspired and empowered volunteer is an effective volunteer. After today, I could feel the added urgency in the room for all of us to do everything we can to re-elect President Obama to a second term.

From phone banks to canvassing your neighborhood to registering voters, there are always ways to get involved. You could also start a Neighborhood Team by getting together a small group of people who know each other. It’s about building this campaign neighbor to neighbor, block by block. If you’re interested in getting involved, please let us know and we’ll get back to you.
