After working on Vice President Biden’s campaign in 2008, I was looking for a way to make a meaningful contribution to this 2012 campaign. Two weeks ago I signed up on BarackObama.com and saw a Team Leadership event in my area, so I planned to attend and get involved.
Last weekend I attended the meeting and after my 1-1 meeting, I was officially “IN”. I met more organizers during a mid-week training session and this weekend our volunteer meeting was filled to capacity. It was a busy week, but I’m ready to tackle all of the new work.
Team Pinellas is growing every day, and this weekend brought a great surprise. Our Florida State Director, Ashley Walker, dropped by our team meeting with very special guest, National Field Director Jeremy Bird.
After Jeremy gave an overview of the campaign, he and Ashley answered questions for over an hour. Jeremy stressed that the lines of communication are open to everyone involved with the campaign.
Michael M., a new volunteer, summed up our enthusiasm:
“I get emails all the time from that guy. It’s like I open my email and there’s a letter from Jeremy Bird. Now he’s sitting here answering my questions. Awesome!”
I couldn’t have put it better myself. Not that we needed any extra motivation, but team my team is fired up!
My advice to everyone is get involved, volunteer, and spread the word. After all, you never know who might show up at your next team meeting!Search here for an event in your area.
