Summer Organizer Spotlight: Margaret T.

When she’s not babysitting or studying to obtain her Paralegal Associates Degree, Margaret T. is putting all her time and effort into campaign work at the Travis County office.

“I haven't had much experience campaigning at all,” she said. “But I decided that now that I am here, I can't really stop organizing and I don't want too, either.”

Margaret, who interned for Organizing for America last spring, is one of 28 summer organizers in Texas working to establish connections with volunteers and community leaders in her area. She is inspired to serve by those around her and President Obama’s initiatives.

“I know in my heart of hearts that President Obama has been and will be one of most influential and important Presidents of my time,” Margaret said. “I didn't get to vote for him in 2008 and this time I not only want to vote for him, I want to make sure all of my friends are going to vote for him as well.”

Margaret knows that working in Texas is not always easy, but thinks that the campaign team in Texas “is the best.”

“We know what is at stake in this up-coming election,” she said. “We know the history of how Texas votes and we want to change that. We work hard to let people around the nation know that Texas is more blue than anyone thinks.”

Beyond electing the President, Margaret hopes to learn and grow from this summer’s experiences.

“I have always said that I want to do something to change people's lives for the better,” she said. “Until I discovered Organizing for America, I didn't know how to do that. But Organizing for America and the 2012 campaign have given me the tools I need to change peoples' lives for the better.”
