Why it's time to stand with women

Today is the official launch of a new initiative focused on advancing policies that elevate American women and families: "Stand with Women."

Volunteers are helping kick it off in true OFA style. At more than 100 action events in homes across the country, women and men are gathering to talk about three fundamental issues that are central to improving the lives of women: economic security, health, and women’s leadership.

Women's rights and security have come a long way, but there is still more to do.

* The pay gap between men and women remains persistent—the average full-time female worker loses approximately $434,000 in wages over a 40-year period as a direct result of the gender pay gap.

* Women are still missing from key leadership roles—only 4.6% of Fortune 1000 companies are run by women, and in the influential Fortune 500, there are only 21 female CEOs.

* In 2013 alone, 17 states have attacked women's rights by putting up barriers and restrictions to reproductive health care.

We’re making sure that state legislatures—and Congress—know that they should be helping women and families, not putting up more road blocks to success. Join us.
