Anna Z. is in because President Obama has improved the image of America abroad.
This is Anna Z.’s first Fourth of July as an American citizen and she’s celebrating like any red-blooded American, with baseball and fireworks after a cookout with ribs, corn on the cob, hot dogs, and potato salad.
It’s a time, she says, of appreciating what we have as Americans and for fighting for the things we love.
“I couldn’t vote in the 2008 election and I can’t wait until next November when I can vote for Barack Obama. He’s already done so much to change the way American’s are viewed in the world. He’s been very steady throughout some big upheavals abroad and I think the rest of the world really appreciates that.”
More than that, she says, are the benefits he’s brought to Americans like herself. Particularly appealing to her is the Affordable Care Act, which eliminates copays for preventive care.
“Everyone says that [the Affordable Care Act] only helped certain groups, but I think it does something for everybody. I don’t have a pre-existing condition, I’m in good health, and I’m lucky enough to have health insurance. But I had a physical last month and didn’t have to pay anything at all. That’s a definite positive change.”
