President Obama’s Judicial Nominations: Historic Successes and Historic Delays

We recently marked the anniversaries of Justice Elena Kagan’s and Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation as Supreme Court justices. In appointing two women—including the first Latina—to the Court, President Obama put into practice his commitment to make sure judges on our federal benches look like the nation they serve.

As the President's had historic success in diversifying the court, his nominations have also faced historic delays. This new infographic from the White House shows the President’s nomination successes so far, the delays in the Senate, and the problems these delays cause for our nation's justice system.
