“I’m way better off.”

Jose has come a long way in the last few years. And this 53–year–old Albuquerque man has plenty to say about the choice New Mexicans face in the upcoming election:

They say “Are you better off now than you were four years ago? I’m one that can say I’m better off. I’m way better off.
In 2003, I was in the hospital dying, and I was booted out because of lack of insurance and I had to file for bankruptcy. I was down to 90 pounds. I was skin and bones.
You see me now and I’m at 190 pounds. I’m healthy. I’m not going broke paying for my medicines.
Since President Obama passed his healthcare reform, it helped me with my medical bills and my medical issues. I now have health insurance and I’ve been able to get my finances in order.
I’m recovering because of what President Obama has done for me.
You go to Romney and you know what? All they’ll tell you is just vote for us. Trust us.
I just can’t do that because my life is on the line. The healthcare of my mother, my sisters, my wife, my granddaughters, my daughter -- their health is on the line.

Jose is doing what he can to ensure that everyone in his community gets out and votes this election. Can you help? Please sign up to volunteer at
