Seahawks for Obama

“College isn’t just one of the best investments you can make in your future, it’s one of the best investments America can make in our future.”—President Obama

President Obama knows that when you invest in education, you are investing in a better future for yourself and our country.

President Obama has doubled investments in scholarships and financial aid for students from working and middle-class families. He has doubled funding for Pell Grants, helping 250,000 North Carolina students achieve their dream of going to college—including Nikki, a student at University of North Carolina—Wilmington:

“I live way below the poverty line. If I didn’t receive scholarships and Pell Grants, there is absolutely no way I’d be able to continue my education here. I started off at a community college and my Pell Grant was pretty small. But when I decided to transfer to UNCW, President Obama had doubled funding for Pell Grants and my financial aid doubled.”

Nikki, like President Obama, knows that investing in affordable and accessible education is the first step in creating a secure future and an economy built to last:

“I’m an example of the fact that, if you give people a chance, we’ll do fairly well. Not only am I committed to my academics; I am involved in student organizations and involved in my community. President Obama’s policies are giving people a chance to live up to their potential and become productive members of society. People just want the opportunity to go to school and be successful.”

Nikki knows that President Obama is fighting for her and understands the issues facing college students, unlike Mitt Romney who would advise students struggling to pay for college to “shop around” or “borrow money if you have to from your parents”:

“President Obama and Vice President Biden just get it. They get working class people since they came from those backgrounds themselves. They know what it’s like to work hard. They are able to connect with people, especially students. You can tell that they really care about you and what happens to your future.”

Stand with Obama-Biden and their fight to keep college affordable for students like Nikki.
