My Weekend in Las Vegas

A few weeks ago, I joined Obama for America - California volunteers for a trip to register voters in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was my first time going on the trip, so I decided to invite my friend Sam to join me. It was a long drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, but judging by all the fun we had, it was definitely worth the trip.

Sam and I teamed up with the neighborhood team leaders from Santa Monica and West LA and our regional field organizer. Together, we all went to a grocery store to register voters and collect I’m In cards. It was great to work directly with the volunteer leaders from my neighborhood. It really showed me how accessible they are and how I should approach organizing my own neighborhood team.

It was also great to meet and work side-by-side with volunteers from another state. We shared our personal stories with each other and why we decided to get involved with the campaign. It was fascinating to see first hand that their are people just like me, volunteering for the same cause, in another state.

The best part of the whole trip was sharing the President’s accomplishments with voters. At first, some people were unsure if they would support Barack Obama in 2012. Once I told them about some of the President’s accomplishments, like the Affordable Care Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, many new voters declared, “I’m In,” and signed up to volunteer in their neighborhood.

I am definitely going back to Nevada on our next trip December 10-11. Join me and sign up today.
