Kansas City Neighborhood Team Highlight - Team Grandview

This week I am celebrating my one-month anniversary as the Regional Field Director in Kansas City. I’ve spent much of this month meeting all the amazing neighborhood teams in the region. This week, I spent a fun evening with Team Grandview during their regular Thursday night phone bank. I had heard about the excitement and enthusiasm radiating from the room during their phone banks, and I was anxious to experience it myself.

Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted with a smile and a hug from Myra D., a passionate core team member who helps facilitate phone-banking events along with Neighborhood Team Leader, Willie R. Myra, a great multi-tasker, introduced me to each volunteer while arranging materials for the evening’s calls.

As volunteers began to arrive, Willie showcased his ability to connect with every person that walked through the door, making them instantly feel like they were part of something special. Myra kicked off the phone bank by welcoming new volunteers and announcing weekly team goals before diving into training. As everyone hit the phones and the room filled with conversation, Willie checked on each volunteer as Myra tracked the call progress on her computer. It was a perfect example of the power of community taking action by speaking neighbor to neighbor to help strengthen the foundation for this campaign.

Events like this are happening weekly across Missouri. Join supporters in your community as they unite to help re-elect President Obama in November. The election will be here before you know it, so now is the time to get involved. If you’ve been thinking about volunteering but haven’t taken that first step yet, here’s your chance to find out what the campaign is doing right now in Missouri. Attend a new volunteer training session on April 21st.
