Obama Mamas

Obama Mamas

Walk into the Minneapolis campaign office on any given Thursday morning, and you’ll find yourself amidst a few dozen Obama Mamas.

Today we’re putting together voter registration packets for barber shops and beauty salons. Sometimes we do data entry, make phone calls, manage projects; we do whatever they have for us. We kind-of take over.

Jean, one of the leaders of the Obama Mamas, a group of about 50 professional woman volunteering every week, volunteered in 2008 and wanted to do it again in 2012.

So she talked to her friend Imogene, “Between all the people you know and all the people I know, we need to get everyone together and involved with the campaign.”

Imogene, Jean, and their friends have certainly gotten involved. Not only do they take over the Minneapolis office every Thursday morning, but every weekend they are at a different church registering voters.

The work we do is so important, and we have a lot of fun. You can’t discount the social aspects--we just had a great potluck to watch President Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Jean's not kidding: Volunteering is a lot of fun. Want to join the Obama Mamas? Sign up and volunteer.
