Meet Jamie G.

Jamie G. is IN

As the first in his family to graduate from college, Jamie G. knew he had the work ethic and determination to do great things. But three years ago Jamie heard a call to action from President Obama that would take his life in a direction he never imagined. The recent Wilkes University college graduate was listening to President Obama deliver a speech on national service where he called on young people to give back to their communities by dedicating two years of their lives to service. Inspired by the President’s call, and moved by the President’s own personal story of overcoming hardships and adversity, Jamie decided to join Teach for America.

Now 24, Jamie is finishing up his second year teaching in the Baltimore City School District and is gearing up to become a summer organizer before he heads to Penn's Fels Institute for Government this fall. Having never worked on a campaign before, Jamie is hoping the summer organizing program will help him learn the tools of the trade so he can do his part to help re-elect President Obama and one day return to his hometown of Wilkes-Barre to effect meaningful change in his own community.

Everyday people have a chance to change this country for the better. Everyone has a voice and I’m looking forward to working with the 2012 campaign to unite thousands of voices in Pennsylvania to help re-elect President Obama and continue on all the progress we have made over the last two years.

In the next few weeks, summer organizers like Jamie will fan out in communities across Pennsylvania to begin the important work of building the Obama 2012 campaign from the ground up. Sign up to join Jamie by getting involved with the campaign in your community.
