I’m in because of equality!

By Eileen B., Las Cruces Volunteer

I am a mother of three beautiful children, all of whom are very different and special in their own ways. As they grew up each went their own way and developed personalities and talents of their own. My youngest son came out in high school, and he would always express to me how sad and frustrated the inequalities in our county made him feel. I have lived in Albuquerque my whole life, and was never really active in volunteering for campaigns and causes. However, at this moment I knew I had to get involved.

Eileen B. is in because of equality.

I started out with phone banking in 2008 for President Obama and our local candidates, as I will continue to volunteer for President Obama in 2012. I want my gay son to have the same rights that my straight children have. Under President Obama we have a greater opportunity to reach equality. We have already seen the repeal of DADT, and pushing for the passage of inclusive hate crime laws under his administration. I know there is still a lot of work to be done, but under President Obama progress is possible.
