When Dori W., a fall fellow in Chicago, came across a post on her school’s career website to volunteer for the Obama campaign, she immediately applied. Fresh out of college, she had been waiting for the right opportunity to make a difference in the world.
Not only did Dori feel this would be a chance to build her leadership skills, it was also a way to show her support for President Obama.
“I support President Obama because I know he has been in the shoes of the people he represents. He doesn’t pretend to know all the answers but he does what is best for the people and that is what matters the most. I know President Obama understands all working Americans and wants to help us.”
As a fall fellow, Dori has put in a great deal of time and effort to build the grassroots organization in her turf.
“My main goal is to build a strong, unified team of people who have as much passion for the campaign as I do. Going into this I told myself my work was not done until I could see the fruits of my labor and I am going to keep going strong until I have a solid team for the south side of Chicago. I want the people here to know how strong their voices are when it comes to this campaign.”
Dori and other organizers will be working hard these next few months to continue building a grassroots organization across Illinois, and they need your help! Find a local event or sign up to volunteer.
