A Friend to Remember

Last week, we said goodbye to one of our hardest-working and most passionate volunteers, Georga B., who lost her battle with brain cancer on May 1st. Georga first got involved with the Obama campaign in 2007—the day the then Senator came to Iowa on his announcement tour—and never stopped.

She made phone calls, knocked on doors, took pictures, managed the Polk County office during the election, and did countless other jobs to make this a better campaign. But, more than all of that, Georga showed each of us what it meant to really live up to the ideal of “Respect. Empower. Include.” She treated everyone fairly and welcomed all with open arms and an inviting smile. There is no doubt that Georga was involved in this campaign because of Barack Obama, but she ended up helping far more people than just him.

Georga reminded us that this campaign was about us and our collective humanity. She brought us together and made us feel special for who we were and what we could contribute.

As a volunteer, Georga was indispensable; as a friend, she is irreplaceable.

We hope you'll take a moment to remember your own campaign friends and family.
