Hope and role models

“I still remember the sense of pride that swept over me as I watched Sonia Sotomayor being sworn in to the Supreme Court of the United States back in 2009.

“Justice Sotomayor is not only a role model to me, she is the embodiment of what I hope to become: a strong, passionate, and inspiring Latina. Like her, I come from a humble background, and I understand growing up feeling like the odds are against you. But when I look at Justice Sotomayor on the Supreme Court, I see hope—hope for a woman like myself to be greater than what the world tells me I can be, and hope for the next generation of Latinas who aspire to greatness.

“Just like her, I am dedicated to overcoming the odds and plan to keep working hard to achieve the level of success I have in mind for myself—so that I can give back to my community and serve as a role model to other aspiring attorneys and Latinas everywhere.”
