A Special House Party

LGBT, Florida, Gary, House Party

On Harvey Milk Day, the President's announcement of his support for same-sex marriage means a lot to to Jerry in Orlando.

"I am a gay man and strongly support the President, even before he publicly announced his stance on same-sex marriage.

I've been with my partner Chris for seven years and we still don't have the benefits other people and their spouses have. It's outrageous, and finally someone has stood up to say that.

Fired up by the President's announcement, Jerry and his partner decided to host a house party to get others in their community involved.

"After the President made that announcement, I knew it was a great idea for all of us to get together, but we want to make it about more than one issue.

If the President doesn't win in November, not only will those of us in the LGBT community suffer—but so will people like women and young Americans too.

Jerry knows that the President is standing up for him, and so he will continue to work for his reelection in November.

"It's going to take a lot of change, but President Obama will go down in history as the President who took a stand. We just need to do all we can to see that he gets reelected.

I take time out of my week to volunteer every Wednesday. And now I am more fired up than ever.

If you're like Jerry and want to help take this movement forward, sign up to volunteer in your city today.
