Dominic: “All in this together”

Mr. President,

I wanted to write you a letter. I don’t know if you will actually get to read it because I am sure you get thousands like this one each day. But I figured it is worth a shot!

I am currently a graduate student at the University of Iowa. As a graduate student, I owe a lot to you. I have health insurance on my parents' plan because of you, I have gotten funding for my research because of you, and I have hope for the future of America because of you.

You came to the University of Iowa a few weeks ago to speak. I waited hours in the rain to see you. (It isn’t every day the president comes to town!) It is a moment I will never forget. You and Joe Biden both spoke with such passion that it brought a tear to my eye! I knew, right then and there, that we were all in this together. I knew that I needed to help out with this campaign.

I am almost constantly busy as a graduate student, so I did what I could. I gave up a tank of gas for my truck, and donated the money to your campaign. (I am pretty sure the Recovery Act paid in part for some of the buses here, so I can ride them and call us even!) I know it is not much, but it is all that I can do to thank you for all that you have done, and will do, for this country.

Well, I have class to teach in the morning, so I can’t spend too much time writing this letter. Just know that I, along with many others here in Iowa City, am rooting for you.

Thanks again, and keep fighting for us! Good luck!

P.S. Your e-mail sent out right after the debate said that you hoped you made us proud out there. I can tell you that you definitely made me proud to be your supporter!
