Celebrating Independence by Registering Voters

In Lansing and cities across Michigan, dozens of grassroots leaders celebrated the 4th of July weekend by empowering voters. At barbeques and fireworks shows, these organizers commemorated their independence by registering voters.

Empowering new voters is an important goal for the Obama campaign. It’s so important that organizers have been active all summer at fairs, festivals, and community events across the state. Grassroots leaders have been reaching out to their friends, family members, and co-workers to make sure they are registered. They are further ensuring that voters who have moved since the last election have re-registered at their current address.

This weekend’s drive was another success, reaching voters in Detroit, Pontiac, Saginaw, Lansing, and Grand Rapids. Organizers said they could not have thought of a better way to spend their Independence Day, but this effort to empower new voters will continue throughout the year. Want in on the fun?
