Building Bridges in the Desert with Team Meetings

Last weekend I took information about the “I’m In” program to the Coachella Valley’s Democrats of the Desert (DOD) in Congressional District 45. I shared with them an overview of the 2012 campaign, our “I’m In” kickoff plan and information about our upcoming Summer Organizer program. Their membership was very engaged, and extremely pleased about the “I’m In” program here in California.

“In 2008, Obama for America made it possible for every American who supported Senator Obama to feel like they had personally elected him President. They developed a movement that was inclusive and that you could take pride in. We know they’re going to do the same thing for 2012!” said club President Elle K.

Our California volunteers in CD 45, like John, Janet, and Jennie have taken the time to build excellent working relationships with the entire membership of Democrats of the Desert. They hosted phonebanks and managed canvasses for GOTV during the 2010 election cycle. These volunteers showed how it’s possible to be a team member for Organizing for America, and simultaneously be a member of a Democratic club – with incredibly productive results.

After we wrapped up, we toasted a successful meeting and working relationship between Democrats of the Desert and the President's 2012 campaign here in California!
